I got this in my email inbox today. We were/are a co-sleeping family and so matters like this are dear to our heart. If you have ever or are currently co-sleeping please take a minute to fill out this very quick survey and be counted. Co-sleeping is not neglect.

Hello breastfeeding supporters and educators,

As you well know, the best food for a new child is
breast milk. You also know that not everyone believes
that fact. The formula companies have successfully
“separated” today’s woman from her breast, at least
mentally. The leaders of the La Leche League are
trying to undo this unfortunate shift of culture, and
we thank you for it.

As you may also know, many of these same “Big Corp”
interests are attacking the Family Bed saying it can’t
be done safely. They, for all intensive purposes, have
a firm grasp on America’s idea about the ONLY safe
place that a child should sleep, a safety approved
crib. Co-sleeping or bed-sharing can be an integral
part of most breastfeeding situations. It makes it
easier, which helps extend the duration. However,
there is a very real movement to officially label
co-sleeping as NEGLECT. This would be a major step
back for breastfeeding.

There are important bed-sharing guidelines that need
to be followed, and not omitted. Public health
departments and the general public are being bombarded
with news stories calling for the end of co-sleeping.
They say it’s dangerous and can’t be done safely. You
as a professional know different.

Help get the message out to save this beneficial
parenting choice. Please ask your successful
co-sleeping families to help prove something that Mr.
Big Corp would like to hide…that people can and are
co-sleeping/bed-sharing safely.

www.co-sleepingsurvey.com is a 30 second survey that
allows parents who have or are currently
co-sleeping/bed-sharing to count themselves as safe
parents. The website has been live for under a week
and over 1000 people have signed up. Most of them are
breastfeeding women. This number is desperately needed
to prove that co-sleeping and bed-sharing can be done
safely and the only thing that needs to be abolished
is the discrimination against this valuable practice.

Thanks,

Camden has begun transitioning away from nap-time. I’m not a big fan of this transition but what’s a mom to do? She is in the stage where her body very much needs a nap (as well as her attitude) but some internal clock of hers is pretty insistent that she’s a big girl now and doesn’t need naps. Except for days like these where she passes out, out of sheer exhaustion.

I am still laughing about the below situation. I was finishing up some homemade lasagna when Camden popped herself into the baby swing (yes, I know it’s not AP) that we have. She is normally told that she is not allowed to be in the swing but I had a mommy cave moment because she snuck in there while I wasn’t looking and made me crack up seeing such a huge child in a baby swing. She pretty much knows if she can make me laugh then she is ok. So, she is swinging away pushing herself with her feet on the floor. I enjoy the bliss of finishing dinner and cleaning the kitchen without interruption. Then she asks for me to turn the swing and the music on. I almost tell her no. Then I think, what the heck, and turn it on for her reminding her she’ll need to keep her feet up so that the motor won’t stop. I looked away for 3 minutes tops and this is what I find.

Here are some cute pictures from last week when she fell asleep on the floor eating lunch and watching Pocahontas while I was doing laundry.

Ok, so this is not AP (attachment parenting) at all, but it is pretty darn hilarious nonetheless. I especially laughed at the part about having the living daylights scared out of him by opening his eyes to see his daughter. Cami has done that to me lots of times.

So, this was just so cute that I had to share. My daughter was finishing the last of her weaning party cake while I was trying to get us ready for a weekend trip to visit family. I was loading bags in the trunk, wearing a 6 week old in a wrap and talking on the phone with a friend (gotta love multitasking). After awhile it dawned on me that my daughter hadn’t followed me outside to help yet and it had been a good 10 minutes. I decided to go inside to see what kind of mischief she was getting herself into when I discovered this…

Notice the dropped fork

…and no, she has NEVER fallen asleep like this before. I thought this was something kids only did on America’s Funniest Home Videos. Oh drats! Why didn’t I record her sleeping. Oh well. Instead I snapped some pics and then carefully carried her to her bed.

A large recall is being issued for playyards made by Kolcraft due to posing a strangulation hazard. The buckle for the changing station poses a strangulation hazard for a child playing in the playpen if the changing table is left in place. A 10 month old child has died because of this. The Contours 3 in 1 also poses a suffocation hazard. Playpens were made in China. Recall found here.
